Physik [Physics]

Master of Science (M.Sc.)

About the Program

The Master's program in Physics deepens the foundational knowledge acquired during Bachelor's studies and imparts specialized knowledge oriented towards current research questions. The focus is on research methods, independent and responsible action, strategic planning of approaches, and critical classification of scientific findings. The aim of the program is to enable students to conduct independent scientific work. Additionally, completing the Master's program qualifies students to pursue doctoral studies. Through scientific institutions such as the Center for Optical Quantum Technologies (ZOQ), the Center for Free-Electron Laser Science (CFEL), and close collaborations with the German Electron Synchrotron (DESY), students have the opportunity to participate in current research projects. The program is structured in two phases: a specialization phase in the first two semesters focusing on at least one specialization area (Accelerator and Elementary Particle Physics, Solid State and Nanostructure Physics, Laser Physics and Photonics, Astronomy and Astrophysics, Biomedical Physics), followed by a one-year research phase in the third and fourth semesters where students complete their Master's thesis after introductory and preparatory projects in a research group.
