About the Program

The Master's program is the second part of the consecutive education in TechnoPhysik: It expands the theoretical and practical foundations of modern physics and engineering sciences and imparts specialized knowledge. The profile of the program is research-oriented and introduces students to current research in physics and engineering sciences. The specialization areas in the Master's program are oriented towards the main research activities of the offering departments: solid-state physics and materials science, atomic physics, quantum optics and photonics, biophysics, materials science, thermodynamics, technical mechanics, and measurement technology. In the first two semesters, students choose one focus module from physics and one from engineering sciences. The technical/physical elective subject offers the opportunity to supplement these focuses according to personal preferences. As part of the project seminar, what has been learned is applied to current issues and then presented in a presentation. The non-technical/physical elective module provides a look beyond the horizon and teaches how to independently work on problems from subject areas outside the two core disciplines. The study project prepares for the first own research project: the master's thesis.
